Job Duties
Position Summary
The Prep and Finisher is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing parts and assemblies to meet product specifications. This role involves mixing paints, surface preparation, coating application, and final detailing to ensure high-quality finishes.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret specifications to determine:
- Paint sequence and application methods
- Color matching, blending, and shading requirements
- Drying times between coats
- Order and number of applications
- Required materials and coverage areas
- Prepare materials and surfaces by:
- Mixing, blending, and matching paints to proper color and consistency
- Masking, sanding, stripping, patching, and glazing as needed
- Apply coatings using brush and spray equipment, including:
- Interior and exterior finishes on assemblies and completed products
- Color matching, spotting, and feathering for seamless blends
- Insignia painting, striping, and final touch-ups
- Perform part identification and marking:
- Metal tagging parts as required
- Numbering parts per engineering drawings or blueprints
- Conduct rework and refinishing tasks as needed
- Maintain equipment and workspace:
- Clean paint booths and apply protective coatings to walls/floors
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the work area
- Utilize computer systems to:
- Record labor and job completion
- Access work instructions
- Navigate systems such as Paycor, MES, and other internal platforms
- Ensure accuracy and quality of all completed work
Job Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a painter/finisher in a commercial environment
OR
- Completion of a painting certificate or degree from Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) or a similar accredited institution

- Strong attention to detail and quality standards
- Ability to follow technical instructions and blueprints
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment
- Basic computer proficiency
